In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni

We wander in the night and we are consumed by fire

2016 · installation · PVC, fabric, LED

An incredibly strong light shines through the 1970 photographic portrait of Joseph Cornell by Duane Michals. So intense, that the artist photographed becomes ghostly.

In the spirit of the moth attracted to the strong light that will burn its wings, this installation channels the potency of a light source so attractive yet unbearable to the eye. I recreated an exact replica of the window in an attempt to stage that light and evoke Cornell's spirit.
